At home you don't need a ferry ticket or paid road vignettes. Fuel is closer than you think, and every small town has an ABC petrol station or campsite for refilling. Finland's speciality is space — you can pull up beside a forest road, brew some coffee and be the only person within five kilometres. ## Classic loop: from the Lakeland to Lapland 1. 1 ### Ylihärmä → Jyväskylä (250 km) Drive the Kokkola–Kajaani road and stop at the UNESCO site of Petäjävesi. Stay overnight at Tuomiojärvi campsite in Jyväskylä and experience Alvar Aalto's architecture. Read more ## Must-see stops ### Archipelago Sea Drive the ferry route via Nauvo and Korppoo all the way to Utö — every ferry is free. ### Repovesi Near Kouvola, this national park offers suspension bridges and stunning campsites. ### Hossa Finland's 40th national park — silence, rock paintings and crystal-clear lakes. ### Bothnian Bay The coastal road from Kokkola to Tornio shows Ostrobothnian plains at their best. Practical tips ## How to make the most of your trip to Finland - In Finland you may stay overnight in any regular car park unless otherwise signposted. - Download Camping.fi and Campingcard ACSI — Finland has over 200 campsites. - Remember insect repellent and a socket adapter (blue CEE-16 isn't always available). - Firewood is available at most ABC service stations and S-market shops. ### Best season May–September.
