Over 5,000 stellplatz sites, an autobahn with no speed limit, and an endless choice of castles, beer and Alpine scenery. In Germany you can fill up cheaply, drive fast and stop for the night in practically every village — often for free or just a few euros. Practical tips ## How to make the most of your trip to Germany - Get an Umweltplakette sticker (about €6) online before your trip — without it you risk a fine in environmental zones. - There's no general speed limit on the autobahn, but a sensible motorhome speed is 100–110 km/h for fuel economy. - Lidl and Aldi have the cheapest fuel — often with space at the back for motorhome-sized vehicles. - June–August is busy; May, September and October are the best times to travel. ### Best season May–October.
